Celebrate World Tourism Day on the Costa Blanca 2020

Creating opportunities outside the big cities and preserving the cultural and natural heritage around the world is the objective that the World Tourism Organization seeks to highlight this year and for this in this edition it has focused the celebration of DMT2020 on the slogan ‘Tourism and rural development’.

The Costa Blanca joins this precious initiative and its municipalities have organized a series of activities to enhance and promote their rural environments. Guided tours, routes, gastronomic days and cultural events that, complying with all safety and hygiene measures, seek to highlight the importance of developing and defending our natural and rural spaces.

Alcoy / Alcoi

There is no better way to celebrate DMT2020 than with tourist routes and Alcoy has prepared several to enjoy the weekend: modernist, natural, nocturnal and cultural. It has also organized activities to get to know the beer culture, to go horseback riding and to visit the Explora and Muboma museums. Are you interested?

Alicante / Alacant

From September 25 to 27, Alicante celebrates World Tourism Day and has designed a powerful schedule of events for this. The yincana ‘Be a patron for a day’ at The Ocean Race Museum, guided tours of ‘Alicante and its history’, a panoramic bike route, wine tastings with Denomination of Origin Alicante, open doors at MARQ and MUBAG and live music.

Altea

Altea joins the celebration and has organized the ‘Ruta de l’horta alteana’, a circular route that will start from the Town Hall and that will cross some of the most emblematic rural areas of the city.

Benissa

Benissa also gets closer to the rural world through two interesting activities: a thematic guided tour to learn about the city and its rural traditions (Saturday 26, from 6 to 8 p.m.) and a family bike ride through its riuraus (Sunday 27 from 9 a.m. 11am).

Elche / Elx

The agenda of events and activities in Elche is extensive and its proposals range from open days in its museums, guided tours of the Municipal Park, historic center, El Fondo Natural Park, oil mills and wineries, to demonstration of the palm-maker trade and much plus.

Join the nature route ‘Descobrix la flora de Segària’ that is organized from El Verger and that will take place in the Parque L’Ombria – Rincón de Portelles on Saturday, September 26 at 9:00 am.

Jijona / Xixona

Another unmissable plan to celebrate World Tourism Day 2020 is to visit the sweetest place in the world, Xixona. Get ready to enjoy a route in which you will travel through the history of nougat and visit the main factories in the city.

Orihuela

Come to Orihuela and celebrate DMT2020 with a guided route to the City Mill along the banks of the Segura River.

Pego i les valls

The event schedule for this weekend reaches Pego i les valls. On Saturday 26 you can participate in the excursion ‘From the Muntanyeta Verda to the Font Salada’ (10am), or in the ‘Route of environmental interpretation’ through the historic center of Pego (5:30 pm). And on Sunday 27th in the ‘Water Route in La Vall d’Ebo’ (9:30 am) or in the ‘Hermitage Route’ (7:30 pm).

Santa Pola

If you want to celebrate it in Santa Pola you can sign up for any of its guided tours; by the Salinas de Santa Pola Natural Park, by the Castillo Fortaleza or by the Casa Romana del Portus. You can also join the interesting ‘Conversation on the natural heritage of Santa Pola and its potential for local development’.

If gastronomy is your thing, come to Sax and participate in its IV Savor Sax Gastronomic and Cultural Days, on September 26, 27, October 3 and 4. An event that will allow you to visit the castle and the old part of the city, participate in wine and beer tastings and taste a delicious traditional meal.
